There are very few times where you get to look like this awesome dude. I have ONE, and only one. I was friends with the big group of girls in my highschool. I moved there for grade 12, always found girls more willing to talk to the "New guy" as I had changed schools every year from grade 8 to 12. My grad photo is me in a convertable with 9 dates. The girls didn't want to go with guys and I being the new kid and not an asshole they all decided to go as my "Dates". I am not a movie star looking dude lol. But in the world 2 photos exist, 1 of 9 hot women sitting on the back of a sweet fucking car my brother in law let me drive to grad and 1 of me in the middle of my gaggle of grad dates. Did I date any of them? Nope. Did I make a move on any of them? Nope. But man, those photos, I look like the coolest dude at grad and I again was not. Gotta enjoy those rare moments where a photo makes it look like you are some kind of badass, especially if you are not lol.

So for context (since I’ve been digging to find out more info about this photo), this is my grandpa and my grandma and great aunt. I may have goofed on the time it was taken (early 50’s perhaps), and I am still trying to figure out more about where in the world they were vacationing! This captured a wonderful moment of my grandpa shortly before he contracted polio. They are all from the United States. I will certainly edit as I learn more! Edit: My great uncle, who would be his brother-in-law, worked for an oil company. That’s probably how they had access to such a nice camera, or knew someone with a nice camera! A helpful redditor down the chain suggested that this vehicle was a 1949-1955 Mercedes Benz O 3500, which was manufactured in Germany. My mother thinks they were most likely in Belgium or Bavaria, someplace that started with a “B”. Edit edit: should’ve named this something else but I liked the alliteration in the title 🥲

~~No, unfortunately they were not wealthy enough to travel outside of the United States.~~ This one had no label when we dug it out of the photo album, so I’m not quite sure where it was taken. Any Reddit sleuths would be appreciated! Edit: So after some digging it turns out they may have been able to go overseas! I’m still trying to find out the details, but I’ll update once I have them! My grandpa and grandma were not wealthy, but my great uncle worked for the oil company.

This is gonna sound weird, but i always feel SUCH a disconnect between young people in old photos and the old people they are today. Like that old woman I got stuck behind in the grocery store, walking super slow with a cane in her cart, totally was like these ladies right here at some point. Chilling with a dude and her best friend, getting some sun (did they know about the sun and skin cancer back then?), might make out with him a little who knows - now slowly shuffling through a grocery store. I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to link it. And the fact that I’m going to be fucking old like that is mind blowing. AND don’t get me started about the pit of anxiety I fall into when i think about the fact that I’m one day, definitely, without doubt, absolutely going to die. Like I will die. It’s crazy.
这听起来可能有点怪，但我总觉得老照片里的年轻人和如今的老年人之间有着巨大的割裂感。就像我之前在超市排队时前面那个磨磨蹭蹭的老太太，拄着拐杖还得靠购物车撑着，谁能想到她曾经也像照片里这些姑娘一样呢？当时可能正和哪个小伙子还有闺蜜待在一起，晒着太阳（那时候的人知道晒太阳会导致皮肤癌吗？），说不定还会跟那男的亲热一下，谁知道呢——结果现在却只能在超市里慢吞吞地挪动。我也不知道为什么要把这两个形象联系起来对我来说这么难。而且想到我自己以后也会老成那个鬼样子，真的太让我崩溃了。还有，别提我想到自己终有一天，绝对、肯定、毫无疑问会死的时候，那种陷入深渊般的焦虑感了。就是那种我真的会死的事实。简直疯了。
