IIRC he said in interviews he literally wanted to kill him and that's why he bit his ear. I think he was in a blackout.

Claimed 'incidental' headbutts from fight1 and this "put his children in danger"... dude wasn't right for the longest, glad to see him mostly normal and seemingly happy now

It's fine but most people don't realize how often you can delete the word "that" and the sentence still works. It's inefficient. Example: I think sometimes we forget, that's Mike Tyson. Works either way, but at least to my eyes it's like writing 'umm' or 'uhh'.
I think sometimes we forget, that's Mike Tyson.

I remember those fights, and Holyfield was definitely headbutting him hard and repeatedly. May or may not have been intentional, but it was extremely clear to everyone watching the fight that it was happening.
Maybe refs fault, but both (esp tyson) kept trying to close the distance and holyfield would kinda put his head down like a 3rd glove to protect and Tyson ran into it more than active headbutts IIRC
This is what I remember. Tyson did what he always did and Holifield just defended it better. I always thought Tyson's head butts were borderline illegal, but he'd do it in a way that people wouldn't notice.
It wasn't really a headbutt per see, but Holyfield was ducking and leaning into Tyson every time Tyson tried to get in close to danger-zone. It's a good defense strategy against aggressive fighters, but Holyfield ended up crashing his head on Tyson's face multiple times. I can see Holyfield not doing it intentionally and it just happening as a result of him intercepting Tyson, but I can also understand Tyson's frustration, as from his POV he's just eating headbutts.
From what I remember Tyson was starting to lose, it was becoming pretty clear and a I’ve thought he did it out of frustration of not having any other way to not lose
For sure. I think it was a combination of both Holyfield being able to counter his game (something nobody had done before), and the repeated accidental headbutts that infuriated Tyson to the point he went Hannibal Lecter on Holyfielnd\`s asss.

HI_Handbasket139 赞2021/5/3
Holifield kept headbutting Tyson in the eyebrow and head. Tyson asked the referee to control the fight, but he didn't, so Holifield cheated one too many times and got nibbled.

I really appreciate that if you look at each of their faces you can tell they’re trying to hide it, but their fear of him is still very clear.
Their fear isnt misplaced either. Without gloves 1996 Tyson could literally one hit kill most of them before they even realized he had started throwing punches.

Gloves protect your knuckles, not their face. You 100% hit harder with gloves.
Yeah getting punched with a boxing glove is not better at all...im not a boxer but ive fucked around with the homies and boxed with gloves...shit hurts. Also been punched with real knuckles from bigger people and it honestly doesn’t blast ur whole head the same. Almost feels more concentrated, which is better then the entire surface area of the glove smacking ur head with the full force of someone who knows they arent about to break their knuckles.
Yup. The only argument for a bare knuckle punch being worse is that it's more likely to cut your face.
Gloves reduce deep cuts and broken facial bones. They don’t give you the ability to hit harder, just reduce the risk of broken hands which makes most guys willing to swing harder. By the time you are a pro boxer your hands are made of concrete. Yes you can definitely break the small bones on the outside with a misplaced punch. Literally known as a boxers fracture. But getting hit by someone with significant calcium buildup on their bare knuckles hurts a lot more than with gloves if they are swinging with full force. Gloves are mainly there because as a spectator sport they wanted to reduce the amount of blood and fights being called due to deep cuts. Gloves cause abrasive cuts and tear the skin. Bare knuckles split the skin and muscle. Gloves also encourage guys to throw more punches since the chances of boxers fractures are reduced by distributing the force of a glancing punch across the glove. Mike Tyson in full rage not giving a single fuck about breaking bones in his hands would do far more damage without gloves than with gloves. Especially against someone who isn’t a professional fighter that has trained their neck muscles and understands how to take a punch. We’re talking broken orbitals, collapsed sinuses, broken jaws, and death.

So what you mean is, the only dude who doesn’t look scared is bigger than him and not in Tyson’s sights
being taller doesnt mean shit to Mike Tyson lol but yeah that's what I'm saying

Crazy to think that Holyfield forgave him and the two became friends. Imagine becoming friends with someone years after they bit a chunk of your ear off.

All I can say is that this explains *a lot* about why *Mike Tyson Mysteries* got made...
Holyfield knows why he did it and I’m sure many other fighters that had faced Holyfield understood why it happened too. Holyfield was infamous for sneaky ass dirty headbutts.
HI_Handbasket64 赞2021/5/3
That's all on the referee for not warning Holifield the first few times he did it. Some will take the mile if offered the inch. Tyson was having none of it. Unfortunately, it cost him the fight, but did add to his legend.

I think to be an athlete you have to have an insane drive and ambition for competition. To be the best. No one understands that like other athletes. Sort of how all ex presidents are friends, they're part of a tough lonely club. I'm just guessing a bit here, but holyfield probably could see more than others how Mike Tyson was caught up in the moment of boxing.

Wisely. Better to be Michael's friend, than enemy.
I doubt it was because Holyfield was scared of Tyson, he beat him up twice.

I would also have accepted a tweaking of that quote to be ‘till your nose bone gets put into the back of your fucking head by someone who’s effectively cannibalised his opponent in the ring moments prior’.

For this deed, Tyson was suspended for a year and was fined $3 million. I would have thought mutilating one's adversary would entail a lifelong ban; Mohammad Ali got a longer ban for behaviour not related to boxing.

I love that about him. He endured and inflicted much pain and hardship but, instead of rotting and spreading rot, he grew from his experiences. I wouldn't go so far as to idolize him, or anybody for that matter, but I admire his career & his legacy. Hope he continues to contribute positivity and wish him peath & happineth.

Nobody thinks that. He's a dude that has been through the highest highs and lowest lows, was at one time the scariest dude on Earth, and somehow later in life, calmed down and became introspective and compassionate, and loves to share the wisdom that has come from one of the most unique lives ever lived. And that's beautiful.

Only the guy in the maroon blazer and the black cop are showing the proper amount of fear on their face given the situation they're in. I'm old enough to remember Crazy Tyson....couldn't pay me enough to stand in front of him even on a good day. And **that** was a very bad day for Crazy Tyson.

It's crazy this guy, after biting ears, calling opponents "faggots" and threatening to rape them, then ACTUALLY raping someone, is doing commercials for Mike's Hard Lemonade. Goes to show how society is willing to turn a blind eye to some people's horrendous behavior, while others get thrown under the bus for doing 1/10th as much. It's incredibly inconsistent, and a symptom of something going on in our culture, but I'm not sure what.

I watched this live on Pay Per View in a massively crowded townhouse. The cops showed up because we were being too loud and rowdy during the undercard. When the main event started they came back and asked if they could come in and watch. That was a trip. About 75-100 people crammed into the main floor of a townhouse and two cops yelling at the TV just as loud as we were. The neighbors must’ve been PISSED!!! What a fight. I miss good heavyweight boxing so much.
