Screw the dollars, she succeeded as a lovely person and humanitarian. I honestly was sorry for both her and Charles. He had always loved Camilla, and I’m glad they are now together. Sorry for Diana that she was forced into a loveless marriage, and died because we were too interested in who she was dating that paparazzi felt they needed to chase her to her death.

It's hard to sympathize with Charles. He essentially dragged Diana through the ringer just to please his parents.

he never loved her. his parents insisted on a virgin wife, which was a hilarious and tragic requirement as charles was not a virgin. no surprise he went back to camilla behind her back. it should've been camilla from the beginning. all the later tragedy could've been avoided.
ElephantOfSurprise-152 赞2020/6/28
It really should have been Camilla all along. Look at them now. For her part Camilla has no ambition or joy in being part of the royal family.. she was never in it to be Queen Consort. And even having been married to other people and having children.. they never really stopped seeing each other. They’ve loved each other their whole lives. And once married, Camilla has turned to be an asset to the royals. She does a good job, she settled Charles down, she’s been respectful to the Queen, she’s taken care of Diana’s boys and grandchildren. So much pain could have been avoided on all sides had Queen Elizabeth not been so concerned that Camilla wasn’t the Virgin Mary that she pushed her down the aisle to marry someone else.
chrisjozo52 赞2020/6/28
It was mother Charles' grandmother, The Queen Mother, pushing for him to marry Diana. The Queen Mother and Diana's grandmother were close friends and the Spence's even had a house on royal grounds. The two grandmothers tried to get Charles and Diana's older sister together but it didn't work out because that wasn't the life she wanted. Diana just ended up being the Spencer sister they settled on.

>It really should have been Camilla all along. Look at them now. For her part Camilla has no ambition or joy in being part of the royal famil Camilla never wanted to marry him back then either, she did not want all the royal baggage and bullshit, nor did most eligible women on the list ahead of Diana. Diana was a clueless young girl who had no clue what she was letting herself in for. Charles was a sop who did what he was told Most of the 'culpability' can be laid at the feet of an antiquated royal establishment behind on the times, though looking at new generation and what they have been allowed to do things seem to have changed a lot.

Princess Diana used her status as a notable royal to highlight those less fortunate than herself. I’m sure someone will tell be how she was actually awful, but I’ll always love her for touching hands of people infected with AIDS when people still treated them like lepers. I’m 33. I didn’t live through the plague years. But I know older gay men who did. And I can’t even imagine watching your friends die for reasons no one understand (at first) and then those in power ignore you. I’m American, of Irish descent. No reason for me to like British nobility. But I’ll always have a soft spot for Diana.

It broke down so many barriers and changed people's idea of what HIV AIDS actually is. Especially as back then you didn't just Google this stuff. People were genuinely afraid and ignorant as to how you can catch it.

There are certain moments in your history that you clearly remember where you were even years later... For me it has been the Challenger disaster, start of 1st Gulf War, Diana's passing, and 9/11. I remember my roommates and I sitting in front of the TV for hours watching the coverage from the tunnel. Such a loss...
9ofdiamonds181 赞2020/6/28

I was 12 when Diana died, and my sister and I were staying with my aunt that weekend. I remember coming downstairs in the morning and she was watching the news and crying. I was aware of Diana, but didn't really understand why she was so upset. The outpouring of grief afterwards was surreal, I remember the flowers left at makeshift memorials all over the place. These days I'm not a fan on the monarchy, but I do have a great deal of respect for Diana and the fact that she was willing to use her influence for causes that were important to her but very controversial at the time.

It’s crazy how deaths like this rattle children in other countries but I can’t really think of anyone in my lifetime where I went, “Damn, I was (X) when (Y) died.” I guess I’ve just grown up during a time where all of the greats had passed or were passing so nothing stood out. The only one that really got me was Steve Irwin. Everyone was making stingray jokes but I remember watching the video at my father’s house on his girlfriend’s laptop and not quite understanding that he was gone. It was only after watching a whole bunch of my old Crocodile Hunter VHS tapes and hearing his daughter speak that I really understood how much he did
kank8435 赞2020/6/28
Yeah it is strange, these collective moments that seemingly impact everyone. In my life growing up in the UK I'd say the only two "I know where I was when I heard about x" are the death of Diana and 9/11.
sports_and_wine16 赞2020/6/28
I was 12 too, and my aunt was actually visiting us. Our TGIF programming was interrupted by the news report of her death. It was just shocking. All the news reports immediately after were saying she’d been involved in a crash and was injured. Part of this extends from BBC protocol then - when a major royal died unexpectedly they purposefully did not release full details at once but staggered the bad news in stages. My close friend was news producer on Radio1 and they would do dry run rehearsals every year on breaking a major royal death - William dying in a helicopter accident was the scenario one year. Even though they’d had death confirmed at start, the release of info was in stages. (That was their protocol up to around 2000, I’d assume this has probably changed since, given the prevalence of rolling news) Edit - added source detail
R-aspberry40 赞2020/6/28

[已删除]2,898 赞2020/6/28
I don’t see this and immediately think, “How beautiful!”, even though she looks amazing. I immediately feel for her having to go through such a public life, like in this picture, with the obsession of her details ultimately leading to her death.
rubendurango1,170 赞2020/6/28
So I would’ve been four or five when she died. Too lazy to check. But I distinctly remember watching coverage of her service on CBC and seeing footage of the crash site, minutes if not seconds after she‘d been killed. All the paparazzi bum rushing the wrecked car, snapping away, so one could get a photo of her lifeless body. It freaked me out. I even asked my mom, “Why are they doing that instead of trying to help the people in the car?”
BeckyWithThePinkHair261 赞2020/6/28
Harry has spoken about this, too. Diana's condition at the scene was obviously very serious but she was still alive as died on the hospital and not at the scene. And the paparazzi all rushed to photograph her dying, rather than trying to help her.
TheSavouryRain138 赞2020/6/28
I've always been taught that in car crashes, unless there is a specific reason like the car being on fire, you really shouldn't try to help if you aren't a medical professional. That said, fuck the paparazzi. Edit: Obviously if the person is awake and coherent you can try to free them or even just talk to them, but if they're unconscious you shouldn't touch them because you don't know what the injuries are.
tilouswag98 赞2020/6/28
Bonus: If you ever witness a motorcycle crash and want to help, DO NOT take off their helmet. You could do even more damage. Leave it to the EMTs.

rtaisoaa155 赞2020/6/28
I’ve heard that she’s gotten a ton of bad press over there for just... being herself and she’s been nothing but hounded. Knowing that he had to live through that as a kid and having lost his mom, I totally get why he weighed that choice. Undoubtedly it wasn’t easy. But at the same time, I’m sure there’s some minor sense of relief having stepped back. He wasn’t raised really to be the next king and after William and Kate had their kids, he was kind of off the hook.
ElephantOfSurprise-37 赞2020/6/28
People keep blaming her for them leaving.. but I’m telling you, none of this was her idea. Harry hitched his wagon to her because he fell in love with someone who was totally on the outside and he saw a chance to be on the outside too. For her part, Meghan learned the protocol, walked away from her career and home, dove into the work, and did everything she possibly could to be a good little princess. Once that baby was born Harry is the one who pulled the trigger on leaving when he recognized his wife’s tears were over the same things his mother’s tears were... he isn’t risking it. It sucks for her that she’s taken the heat for it. But I would bet a billion Stanley nickels it was his decision and one he was eyeing all along.
EgonOnTheJob117 赞2020/6/28
Sorry to nitpick, but I believe it wasn’t a hearse. I could be wrong, I remember watching her funeral so clearly. Her coffin was out in the open air, carried on a gun carriage. I miss the very sheer black. Nylons like that aren't readily available in stores anymore, that's why I'd like for them to go back in style.

As a flight attendant I can safely say that people still sell pantyhose
PrairiePunk90 赞2020/6/28
Walmart and Target both have sheer black nylons in the US. You can get them as pantyhose or as thigh highs. They’re my favorite way to spice up an outfit.
karmasfake39 赞2020/6/28
?? They sell em at CVS
Thicc_Jedi44 赞2020/6/28
Ikr I feel crazy. Literally any grocery store, department store, drug store etc has a section with panty hose. It would be harder to find a store that doesn't carry them.
Raeko172 赞2020/6/28
These are not tights, these are sheer blank pantyhose. The reason they are not very popular anymore is because they are VERY delicate. If they snag on even the tiniest thing, they run. That's one of the main reasons thicker more opaque tights are more popular these days.
calypsocoin55 赞2020/6/28
I used to joke that they were “disposable” since I could never wear a pair more than once without getting a run in them
deladude27 赞2020/6/28
I was in FFA (Future Farmers of America. I was *very* cool) in high school, and our “official dress” for girls included a black skirt and black pantyhose. We weren’t allowed to get runs in them during official events. Considering we were teenagers doing agricultural/outdoorsy things, this was almost impossible. We’d have to pack 2-3 pairs per day, and haul clear nail polish and hairspray around with us all day in futile attempts to stop runs as soon as we noticed snags. *Hell.*
Cobra_Surprise53 赞2020/6/28
Wait, what? They're at target with all the other tights! I wear them all the time in winter...
CrimsonPhantom922264 赞2020/6/28
Dammit Reddit. I cannot unsee her looking like a sexy Bill Clinton.
Babsmitty40 赞2020/6/28
Dammit, I had just cleared the image and you brought it back up again.

I'm a Filipino and it's interesting how the death of princess Diana even came to us. She's that famous. My cousin was also named after her because she was born just months after Diana died. I am interested in how will Netflix portray her though on the next The Crown series.
noUsernameIsUnique38 赞2020/6/28
The last season felt so hollow to me, I wondered if it was just a bad season or a clever form of artistic social commentary on the depressing weight of the crown’s institutions.
Cornflake0305169 赞2020/6/28
Friendly reminder that the president of the United States said about her after she died that he thinks he could have slept with Diana but only if she had an HIV test beforehand.
Galaga_52 赞2020/6/28
Wait, what? Are we talking about orange man or another president? Because that's something orange man would say
Cornflake030540 赞2020/6/28
Donald said it
BadDireWolf35 赞2020/6/28
Lol imagine if Obama had said that, like he spent his whole career being honorable and decent but for some reason Barry just had a weird idea about Diana 😂
BlondFaith142 赞2020/6/28
Noone will believe me but my uncle dated her (once) right after that. He kept her half smoked pack of cigarettes until the day he died.
Edward_Pissypants61 赞2020/6/28
You sure you believe him?
BlondFaith62 赞2020/6/28
Not 100% but his story lined up and he wasn't mentally unfit. He had just finished at LSE in London and was working for a bank.

Back when the worst thing a Royal did was cheat on his wife
ohdearsweetlord156 赞2020/6/28
Worst thing that you actually heard about.
kenson_the_cook179 赞2020/6/28
They were still molesting kids back then :/.
simonesaysyassss40 赞2020/6/28
Wasnt there also a Nazi royal?
[已删除]45 赞2020/6/28
Not just a royal, he was king.
StamosAndFriends92 赞2020/6/28
Wasn’t she having an affair on him as well? Their whole relationship was messed up
Amped-1172 赞2020/6/28
She suspected Camilla after the engagement was announced and initially wanted to break the engagement. However, she was in love with him, young, dumb, and naive to think that once she was married that he would stop seeing her. He didn't and was blatant about it. She eventually did have an affair, but it was many years in...around the time of Harry is when she began seeing other men.

James Hewitt and Will Carling are almost as famous for her fucking them as they are for what they actually did.

Same here. Ready for Princess Di!
ohdearsweetlord69 赞2020/6/28
That is such a gorgeous dress. Wish that neckline would come back in style. An iconically beautiful and loving of life person.
4_my_Weird_Questions33 赞2020/6/28
I am curious why this considered a ‘revenge dress’ is it because royals are not allowed to show shoulders? she looks so pretty.
FayeQueen68 赞2020/6/28
They can't show their shoulders and the dress is way too high for their dress code. The neckline also probably doesn't help
TheJoker27367 赞2020/6/28
Guts. If there's one thing you notice immediately beyond her ethereal beauty, is the lady had guts. And I'm not talking about blindly running into gunfire kind of guts. No, I'm taking about the *checkmate* kind of guts. With the intelligence & knowledge to back them up. Just watch her interviews. She makes it crystal clear she's not a fair maiden for the royal family to showcase to the public and oppress within the walls of Buckingham Palace. AFAIK, that lady is a true role model in every sense.

Trump once claimed he could have nailed Diana (this was after her death, so even more tasteless): Trump said, “I think I could have,” following it with a remark that the late princess would have to pass an HIV test before she could sleep with him.
