What's more telling is that once the higher ups found out about this, they banned it. You can't fight a war once your realize the other side is just like you. If you listen to them propaganda and dehumanize, then you have less trouble pulling the trigger. We're all very similar, no matter the country, politics, or anything else.
更能说明问题的是，一旦上头发现了这事儿，他们立马就给禁了。一旦你意识到对面那帮人其实跟你一个样，这仗就没法打了。要是你只听信他们的洗脑宣传，把敌人非人化，那你扣动扳机的时候心理负担就会小得多。
咱们所有人其实都大同小异，不管在哪个国家，信什么政治立场，或者别的什么东西。

We are all pretty much the same. We all want to live a peaceful comfortable life. Politics is what starts wars not the common people. I remember someone posting a video interview of an old WW2 vet on here and he was describing his battle with an enemy, in which he was slightly faster and so he was able to stab him with his bayonet first. He said he immediately puked, and wished nothing more than for him to come back to life so he could shake his hand, because he was sure that under any other circumstances they would’ve been sharing a few drinks at the pub.
我们所有人基本上都一样。我们都想过上平静舒适的生活。挑起战争的是政治，而不是普通老百姓。
我记得以前有人在这儿发过一段二战老兵的视频访谈，他当时在描述自己和敌人交火的经历，说因为他动作稍微快了那么一点，所以先用刺刀捅死了对方。他说他当时当场就吐了，心里只想让那人活过来，好跟人家握个手。因为他敢肯定，换个场合的话，他们俩绝对会是在酒馆里一起推杯换盏的朋友。

I have seen this a few times and I always thought that no man's land would have been all chewed up and pick marked with holes and broken trees. This land looks relatively clear and flat.
我看过这东西好几次了，一直觉得“无人区”应该到处都是被炸得稀烂的坑洼，还有断木残枝。这片地看起来倒是挺平整开阔的。

The really elaborate trenches most people associate with the war didn't come until later. There was quite a bit of movement during the early portion of the war before they dug in.

If the title is correct, this would only be 4 months into the war, still a little early before either side realized the capabilities of modern artillery

i would have had to sneak away in the night, i couldn't go back to shooting at "the other side" the next day. boys given guns and told to go kill each other by old men who are too cowardly to do what they themselves ask.
