I know it's old news and 'everyone' watches GoT but god damn isn't that kind of a huge spoiler to have paired with the top comments on this currently front page submission?
I mean, are spoilers from an episode of a show that aired 5 years ago really something to be still worrying about.
我是说,一部五年前播出的剧集,里面的剧透真的还有必要这么担心吗。

The general rule of thumb in my opinion is if you are posting somewhere where a person can reasonably expect spoilers it's all copacetic, but if you're posting somewhere entirely unrelated and spoil shows then it's regarded in most if not all cases to be kind of a dick move. No one is browsing Chaplin photos on colorizedhistory braced for Game of Thrones spoilers.
Charlie Chaplin was a big part of Hollywood, so it's not hard for me to believe his granddaughter would be in Hollywood, but it is pretty cool! Here's a video of Chaplin talking about the studio he built in Hollywood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re2EMaSUWDY I've been to Chaplin's Hollywood studio, but it's now the private Muppet studio.
Holy heck was that video world opening... Like not only did Charlie Chaplin have to deal with the transition to films with vocals, but Hitler stole his moustache look so the poor guy clearly had a whole lot to deal with as the world kept spinning :|

There's still a few drops of old blood floating around in Hollywood... I have no idea if he's done anything recently, but Errol Flynn's grandson played that frizzy-haired kid on Zoey 101 a few years back. And I hear that John Barrymore's granddaughter has been in a movie or two as well ;)
She also died in Inside No 9. In an episode with almost no dialogue, inspired by Charlie Chaplin, funnily enough. Apparently that casting wasn't intentional.

For me, it’s the ages. If he’s 27 here, that means he was born in 1889. Meanwhile, she was born in 1986, 97 years later. Her mother (his daughter) was born in 1944. So she was 42 when her daughter was born, and he was 55 when she was born. I thought my grandfather was old!
It's not, but a comment like this gets less backlash here than a comment directly talking about how hot someone thinks she is. Most of the time this Charlie Chaplin picture is posted (every other week), the comments are usually filled with stuff like, *"Wow, I never realized how handsome Charlie Chaplin was."* So actually, I would think that it should actually be *expected* that someone who is generally accepted as attractive would have descendants who are also widely accepted as attractive.
Wait ... I thought she is related to Charles Dickens..

I think the actor who plays Viserys is related to Charles Dickens. Slight tangent - I highly recommend the Game Of Thrones History & Lore, which you can read on YouTube, especially the episodes narrated by Viserys.

So apparently no one dresses up for Halloween here. I wish I had known that before I used grease paint for my mustache. And I can't even take off my hat... because then I'm Hitler.
For anyone interested The Great Dictator was the first time anyone ever made a movie parodying Hitler. Hitler even watched it and Chaplin said he'd give anything to know what he thought.
I think he also said he regretted making it because he had no idea of the atrocities Hitler was about to commit, and he was worried his film would be seen as making light of it. A shame IMO because I consider it Chaplin's finest work.
Funny you should mention that, because Chaplin was born four days before Hitler.
真巧,你居然提到了这个,因为卓别林刚好比希特勒早出生四天。

Just for a second in season 2, I think. Tommy is showing off to someone and takes them to a high society party where he points to young Charlie Chaplin. He doesn't have any dialogue.
Yes, he knows his bodyguard because he is Roma/gypsy too, and so was Chaplin.
对,他认识那个保镖,因为他自己也是罗姆人/吉普赛人,卓别林也是。

________ Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. Chaplin became a worldwide icon through his screen persona "the Tramp" and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. His career spanned more than 75 years, from childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977, and encompassed both adulation and controversy. Chaplin's childhood in London was one of poverty and hardship. As his father was absent and his mother struggled financially, he was sent to a workhouse twice before the age of nine. When he was 14, his mother was committed to a mental asylum. Chaplin began performing at an early age, touring music halls and later working as a stage actor and comedian. At 19, he was signed to the prestigious Fred Karno company, which took him to America. Chaplin was scouted for the film industry and began appearing in 1914 for Keystone Studios. He soon developed the Tramp persona and formed a large fan base. Chaplin directed his own films from an early stage and continued to hone his craft as he moved to the Essanay, Mutual, and First National corporations. By 1918, he was one of the best-known figures in the world. In 1919, Chaplin co-founded the distribution company United Artists, which gave him complete control over his films. His first feature-length was The Kid (1921), followed by A Woman of Paris (1923), The Gold Rush (1925), and The Circus (1928). He refused to move to sound films in the 1930s, instead producing City Lights (1931) and Modern Times (1936) without dialogue. Chaplin became increasingly political, and his next film, The Great Dictator (1940), satirised Adolf Hitler. The 1940s were a decade marked with controversy for Chaplin, and his popularity declined rapidly. He was accused of communist sympathies, while his involvement in a paternity suit and marriages to much younger women caused scandal. An FBI investigation was opened, and Chaplin was forced to leave the United States and settle in Switzerland. He abandoned the Tramp in his later films, which include Monsieur Verdoux (1947), Limelight (1952), A King in New York (1957), and A Countess from Hong Kong (1967). By October 1977, Chaplin's health had declined to the point that he needed constant care. In the early morning of 25 December 1977, Chaplin died at home after suffering a stroke in his sleep. He was 88 years old. The funeral, on 27 December, was a small and private Anglican ceremony, according to his wishes. Chaplin was interred in the Corsier-sur-Vevey cemetery. Among the film industry's tributes, director René Clair wrote, "He was a monument of the cinema, of all countries and all times ... the most beautiful gift the cinema made to us." Actor Bob Hope declared, "We were lucky to have lived in his time." On 1 March 1978, Chaplin's coffin was dug up and stolen from its grave by two unemployed immigrants, Roman Wardas, from Poland, and Gantcho Ganev, from Bulgaria. The body was held for ransom in an attempt to extort money from Oona Chaplin. The pair were caught in a large police operation in May, and Chaplin's coffin was found buried in a field in the nearby village of Noville. It was re-interred in the Corsier cemetery surrounded by reinforced concrete. Chaplin wrote, directed, produced, edited, starred in, and composed the music for most of his films. He was a perfectionist, and his financial independence enabled him to spend years on the development and production of a picture. His films are characterised by slapstick combined with pathos, typified in the Tramp's struggles against adversity. Many contain social and political themes, as well as autobiographical elements. In 1972, as part of a renewed appreciation for his work, Chaplin received an Honorary Academy Award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century". He continues to be held in high regard, with The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times, and The Great Dictator often ranked on industry lists of the greatest films of all time.

She died of syphilis Apparently she was prone to violent psychotic episodes and eventually was admitted to an asylum at 35 after her condition worsened. Two years after her husband died she was readmitted when she showed signs of hallucinations and acting mad. She continued to age and deteriorate into dementia. Charlie eventually moved her in with him and his half brother in Hollywood where she started getting round the clock care and wouldn't die until 7 years later with Charlie by her side.
