Being that fat before the internet, TV, modern junk food, cars and in the age of manual labor was probably no simple feat. He wouldn’t look completely out of my place at my local Costco today.

Carbs and lard would probably be your best bet. Lots of potatoes and bread if I had to guess. Mostly just high-energy foods that don't fill you up so you can keep eating.

Assuming you're of average height and weight currently, you would need to eat 666 medium-sized stalks of celery each day to guarantee that you'd be eating enough to gain weight. Of course, the bigger you get the more you have to eat, so you'd have to eventually move on to more than 666 medium-sized stalks of celery each day.

Sugar was around in the west indies in the 16th century, but fat + potatoes is the shortcut to obesity even today. Edit: potatoes couldn't have been in Europe before 1492 anyhow, I think Frederick the Great was famous for introducing them to Prussia

Potatoes are my nemesis. I grew up thinking all vegetables were equal, got to love potatoes because you can basically put them in any dish or have them as a side with anything and I thought baked potatoes were supposed to be super good for you. Grow up to find out that potatoes basically metabolize as sugar and should be in the the low end of vegetable consumption and instead I should be eating (usually) based on color (the more green the better (usually)). Now I have to unlearn a lifetime of eating. And this is just one of the bad health tips I got growing up.
To be fair basically everything metabolizes as sugar. Our bodies run on glucose. Unless you're in ketosis.
Potatoes are great if you moderate how many you eat and when you eat them. I usually have a few for breakfast along with some eggs and they fill me up and give me more than enough energy to get me going until dinner. Remember that sugar equals fuel for the body so just because something metabolize into sugar doesn't make it bad, you just gotta moderate your intake so you dont exceed your daily calorie goal. Edit: If not of

Actually, Europeans consumed a lot of sugar - in the 1700s they had a "sugar craze" and it made for a fifth of *all* European trade, plus it was dirt cheap. They put it in jams, cocoa, baking and preserved food. If you look at Victorian baking recipes for example, they used a *fuck* load of butter and sugar in most of their cakes lmao
Not contradicting your point, but any written recipes would be thoroughly upperclass, upper middle class, so not terribly representative.

I've always been amazed/impressed at how some morbidly obese people can achieve that. I guess it's cuz I always see them in public places like the Atlanta airport where the are moving around somewhat. But truly, how can someone even afford to get that big? They have to be slamming clearance aisle cakes for breakfast lunch and dinner. Even fast food is far too expensive to reach these levels alone. The saddest part is when you see fat kids. That's child abuse basically

Watching an episode of my 600lb life usually gives some idea. Often what happens is that somebody who is already extremely obese injures themselves, further restricting movement. In the time it takes to heal they become even more obese and possibly bed bound. There's also often quite a lot of emotional trauma involved, and enablers who reinforce shitty eating and exercise habits.

For future benefit you should've used a comma after "shortest" and before "and fattest" to separate the two, the way it's written now it says Cannon is both the shortest *and* the fattest.

The debate pretty much boils down to whether or not it is truly necessary. The oxford comma isn't required (many works get published in print media without it), but since it provides clearer context in lists I prefer to use it.
But oxford comma can also create ambiguity. If you say "Stalin, a pimp, and Hitler" it's not clear whether Stalin is a pimp or it's another person entirely.
Then you could be picky of your placement of words. If we put the pronouns before the noun: "Stalin, Hitler, and a pimp" is a little more simpler to understand.

The same applies for problems the Oxford comma solves: "Hitler, Stalin and the strippers". Or for the title of this post: "The shortest, the tallest (Cornelius Bruns) and the fattest (Cannon Colossus) man of Europe playing a game of cards, 1913"
或者针对这篇帖子的标题:“The shortest, the tallest (Cornelius Bruns) and the fattest (Cannon Colossus) man of Europe playing a game of cards, 1913”(1913年,欧洲最矮、最高(Cornelius Bruns)和最胖(Cannon Colossus)的三个男人在打牌)。

What a time to be alive Side note, there's pictures from before this that are actually legit color and they're amazing. Look up Russia early color pictures or something. It's one of the coolest photo galleries on the internet, easily. Saw it like 5 or 6 years ago and I still check it out every few months. All these pictures of rural isolated groups, things we almost never see in color. His hat reminded me of it.

Dear god man....What have computers done to your expectations? How does anything get planned ever? Did you think everyone just threw shit at each other and poked fires with sticks before 1988?
