Granted it's Kubrick and I am sure they've been heavily curated but those pictures are fabulous, wow. Did he have a crush on Betsy Von Furstenberg?
Most photographers’ work is heavily curated. They take tons of pictures in order to get one great one. They’re obviously talented at it too but a big part of it is that they keep shooting. Most people would be better photographers if they simply shot a bunch of photos instead of the usual one of each thing they shoot.
Wow, I really love this but I was definitely not prepared for those nipple stretchers!

So that kid in the picture is a man in his early 70s now. Would love to see pics at 20, and 50 years old and an up to date. If he's still among the living that is.
I think they used to say that a lot in cases of suicide.

My friend's obituary said he "died suddenly". He put a gun in his mouth, so I guess it's technically true.

Ever heard of Korean fan death? They claim that a healthy young person died because the fan forced all the air out of the room and they suffocated. In reality they hung themselves from the fan.
It's not really true though... it's just a myth propagated by word of mouth, there's really no association between 'fan death' and people hanging themselves from a ceiling fan.
I dont even know how that plays into it at all honestly. Its like people are adding something new to the "myth". No mention of it at all in this snopes article. While, a myth, it has nothing to do with people killing themselves. https://www.snopes.com/medical/freakish/fandeath.asp In fact, in my one and only google search on the subject I see nothing from anyone claiming its about killing themselves but rather a superstition and simply an explanation for "random" deaths. Its not some propaganda or anything. No idea where that comes into play honestly.
He's completely misinformed don't believe that nonsense. They are referring to oscillating fans on the floor.
Ooooh, I thought they were claiming the fan made the room too cold so they got pneumonia or consumption or something.
Am Korean, it doesn't have to do with any of that. Back when Korea was rapidly developing their early electric grid was really shitty. So in the summer to conserve energy the government spread propaganda saying that leaving a fan on all night while you slept could kill you.
I can see how the success of the campaign might have actually convinced people that fans were dangerous, thus the people who wanted to cover up suicide could blame the fans. Seems like no one is really wrong here.
To be fair where I live a lot of people really do accidentally shoot themselves and die. Kind of a mix between suicide and playing with a gun drunk

When my grandmother was about ten her older brother, who was only 16, was cleaning a handgun when it went off. Blew his head off right at the kitchen table with the whole family in the room. She had to help clean it up and everything. My grandmother has been miserable her whole life because of her anxiety and OCD. She’s never sought treatment and now she’s 86 and regrets never really living. Long story short, traumatic events like this can fuck a person up for life. Of the four people I’ve seen die, two were traumatic, and it still is something l have to deal with. l can’t imagine seeing a friend or family member blow their heads off. EVERY GUN IS LOADED ALWAYS NO MATTER WHAT.
I don't think so, I mean people kill accidentally kill themselves all the time now. Plus, I think if you planned on killing yourself with a .22 you'd go for a headshot. I don't think you'd do it to where you'd take an hour to die. He probably accidentally shot himself in the gut trying to clean it, just like people do nowadays.
I remember hearing about a grand uncle who died when "the gun he was cleaning went off". Sounded super suspicious to me but when people are buying into it you don't really want to push them for the truth and upset the apple cart.
It can be really hard to tell, guns had way less safety features back then, and there was a lot less of a culture of gun safety.
Eh I wouldn’t say guns had less safety features in 1962. Some of the most widely used guns today were designed over a century ago. Aside from becoming plastic and “tacticool” looking, guns haven’t changed a lot over the years.
The only major change I can think of would be the drop-safe components of some semi-auto handguns. Though, it isn’t really likely that any gun goes off just because it was dropped
Not to take anything away from this guy, but it's crazy that this used to be considered a body builder. He's not someone you'd look twice at in a gym today.
I dunno, I'd be pretty impressed with any baby doing a pull up

At 11 months? No way. They lose those reflexes around 6 months old just like the moho reflexes. They could also MAYBE hold their weight for a few seconds but they’re not that strong. Mine at 7 months is beefy but no way could he pull his entire body up and hold it there.
Yeah and that was my problem for a while, I wanted to look roided out because that's the type of body builders I was exposed too. Arnold, Ronnie Coleman, all those guys were so massive and I wanted to be that guy. Started doing steroids, quit after 3 months because my friends gave me an intervention. Really means a lot to me when your friends who snort cocaine and drop acid with ya are sitting you down like "dude come on lay off the stuff". Anyways I don't do steroids now. I actually purposely let myself lose everything I gained from roids because I was so ashamed of doing them. So I'm starting from scratch now and it feels so much better. I completely changed my lifting philosophy, and my workout routine. I don't fuck with isolation split plans, I do full body compound lifts and I feel and look so much better imo. Now when people say I look like I workout, or I look big I am actually proud of myself, because it's something I've earned without the help of drugs. (also injecting steroids hurts so fucking bad. I was recently playing the classic game psychonauts and there's a crazy character named Boyd in the game. The protagonist says "I'm gonna start calling you roid because you're a pain in my butt!" and I thought that was a fucking hilarious quip that not many folks would understand)

Man I️ hate to break it to you but I️ think that reference in psychonauts is to a hemorrhoid.

Being slightly involved in the bodybuilding community, I will always admire the amount of dedication and devotion it takes to get to “monstrosity” point you see in modern bodybuilding. People say shit like “blah blah steroids” but that is only a fraction of it. It takes year of eating perfectly and training obsessively to make it to that monster physique you see in open bodybuilding. And I agree with you, it’s too much. I prefer the physiques from the 60s and 70s when size was just as important as being lean and a somewhat attainable appearance. I don’t mind the classic physique division too much, it’s more of that classic bodybuilder look that I prefer. I still have nothing but admiration for what those mass monster bodybuilders put themselves through to get that point though.
I mean, that may be true if you have no interest in bodybuilding, but then I'm not sure why you'd be asking that question. I've been a recreational powerlifter for about 5 years now, and I've picked up some stuff from bodybuilding, since you can chase aesthetics and strength at the same time. Look up the classic physique category, and it'll be more in line with what the average person thinks of when they think aesthetic, although nowadays even they are getting pretty big. It's for sure more of the look I want to have some day. From my understanding the biggest problem you see with the mass monsters is something in their gut is growing from heavy use of insulin to feed the muscles. It's called bubble gut, and almost everyone agrees it completely ruins aesthetics. The problem is bodybuilding is a sport that is very political, and they'd rather have their celebrities win, even if they clearly look terrible. I could go on, but I've probably went on too far anyway. The politics largely stem from profiting off the ponzi scheme that is celebrity endorsed supplements. There are a few supplements that work well, and they're well known and cheap, but everyone wants to push the new miracle that has no empirical or anecdotal support. But they see this wildly successful bodybuilder promoting it, and in a way, think they'll achieve something similar when they use it. There's no shortcuts; even PEDs. It's a lot of hard work, and the people using shortcuts (insulin) are paying for it.
Because all the body builders you’re thinking of are killing themselves with juice to get that unnatural look while this guys is more than likely 100% natural.
This build is no where near the levels of needing juice to surpass. I personally know a few guys bigger than this 100% natural that only do weightlifting as a hobby. In my prime I was close to this size without even going crazy into the regiment. The truth is we've just learned a lot about diet and muscle building techniques that make it far easier to gain more mass naturally
i really wonder what difference is, id guess nutrition? the exercises must be roughly the same, but calories and nutrition science probably explains the difference this guy is pretty fit, but hes not even instagram fitness model guy fit
It looks to me like a focus in different muscles. This guy is thick as a tree trunk around the core! His legs are oaks! But his arms are like half of what you see today. Also, he's not particularly lean, so the muscle doesn't show as much.
I knew I saw this before...Kubrick's photos. Thanks!

My granpa always told me stories about how in the war they used to do pullups all the time. But one day the sargent started doing pullups and he pooped his pants and a bunch of poop fell out of the bottom of his pants then he let go of the pullup bar and he dropped right onto the poop then he slipped and he fell face first right into the poop and my grandpa said that they weren't allowed to do pullups anymore after that.
Man, I haven’t done a pull-up since I was like five

I like to imagine that Gene routinely and proudly lounged around the house in those lime-green briefs, glistening with bodybuilder oil, and Pat would always ride his ass about it. “Jesus Christ, Gene! For the thousandth time, stop laying on the furniture when you’re all oiled up like that! And for Christ’s sake, put on some damn clothes for once. Mildred and the girls are coming over in 20 minutes to play bridge.”
