Undergoing surgery in the 1920s is a hardcore flex
1920年代做手术,这操作属实硬核得离谱。

She’s probably on so much laudanum lol

And no antibiotics. People died more from the infections afterwards than the surgery itself. The Aunt seems to have recovered well.
而且那时候没有抗生素。人们死于术后感染的情况比手术本身还多。
阿姨看起来恢复得不错。

Yeah, I can't even imagine how it was back then. My great-great-grandma was the first person to have a dual hip replacement in the 1920s because she was born without fully formed hip sockets. They didn't even have antibiotics, so it's a miracle she survived. They must have done something right because she lived until she was 93 years old and never had them replaced again.
Not rich but certainly well off. My grandfather was a doctor and his practice was located in their home. He happened to be the personal physician for John Bullock, founder of Bullock’s department store in Los Angeles.
虽说不上大富大贵,但绝对算得上家境殷实。我祖父是个医生,诊所就开在他们家里。他刚好是洛杉矶 Bullock 百货创始人 John Bullock 的私人医生。

She looks so lovely. My Nana wasn't so fortunate, she died aged 19 in 1929 from a burst appendix.
她看起来真可爱。我奶奶就没这么幸运了,她在1929年因为阑尾炎穿孔去世,才19岁。

My grandfather died from an appendectomy around that time. Survived the op. They had you stay in bed for a week or 2. When he got up a blood clot hit and he died.
Wonderful photo! My maternal grandmother also survived an appendectomy in 1922, which occurred during her senior year of high school. The story goes that she was in agony with appendicitis, yet wasn’t taken to the hospital until her father arrived home from work! It’s a marvel that she survived.
