Love this pic! Notice his walking stick is actually an ax.
Eilef was also a craftsman, earning his living by repairing everyday items, working as a tinsmith and a cobbler as he traveled. He was highly regarded for his repair work and even more so for his story telling. The drowning was from falling through the ice while attempting to cross it. 😔
They’re classic Norwegian folktales that we all grow up with here in Norway! Most of them were passed down orally for centuries, and storytellers like Braatene were key in keeping them alive. A lot of these stories were later collected and published by Asbjørnsen and Moe in the mid 1800s, you’ve probably come across some of them before!
The pic & his bio make him seem like a character from an old folk tale Most 'meta' thing I've seen on Reddit for a while
这张照片加上他的生平,让他看起来就像是从古老民间传说里走出来的人物一样。

Hah thanks! Just recently joined this sub, and as a Norwegian, there’s an endless supply of fascinating photos and stories I’d love to share more of here
He looks as if he could understand the speech of animals and will give you the secret key to a strange world, if you treat him with respect.
他看上去就像那种能听懂野兽说话的人,只要你对他足够尊重,他甚至会把通往异世界的秘密钥匙交给你。

I thought he looked particularly short in the image somehow. Poor man though, that pack looks so heavy and he looks like he should be tucked up in a warm bed with some hot chocolate.
