What was crazy is that 36 is when my Jewish great-grandfather was visiting from the US that year to see his sisters who stayed. He immigrated in the early teens before WWI. This trip was the last he ever saw his sisters or their families. He went back in 46 but never found a trace of them, their kids, no one in his extended family. They just vanished. They were from around Munich so its likely this saw something like this. I can't imagine what was going through his mind.
The Nazis kept good records of everything they did including deporting Jewish populations to death camps. Have you checked German records?

We have. They did keep good records but they did destroy many of them. My grandmother spent a lot of time trying to find out. Personally, what I think happened is they were transported somewhere and shot/starved at a small camp or something like that and their records were some of the ones that were destroyed. My 99 year old grandma still has the letters in German he and his sisters wrote to each other.
How about Yad Vashem in Israel? I hear they have a lot of records of the Nazi deportations and crimes. I do my own family research and I find tracking down information challenging and rewarding. Also wondering if Munich had a city directory you could consult. It may help narrow down when they were sent to the death camps. My condolences for your family's loss.
Yad Vashem was part of the rationale for me to think they were sent to a small camp around Munich or Austria and not one of the huge death factories. Had they been sent to something like Mathhausen or Dachau, the chances are pretty good one of their names would have survived. The fact that my great-grandpa or my grandma never found anything as to their whereabouts and Yad Vashem has a ton of records makes me think they were sent to some small camp. I know there were tons of those and they would have had fewer records to destroy than one of the big camps. Those small camps were awful as well. I remember reading in The Buchenwald Report about their satellite camps and basically everyone who was sent to one of these was never seen again.
Interesting. It looks like you and your family did a lot of research. Yes, the Nazis only ran awful camps. Not surprising. I've only heard of one time when non German officials were able to check on their deported citizens. When the Nazis sent Danish Jews to a camp, Danish Red Cross and Danish officials insisted on knowing about their welfare. Their actions likely saved Danish Jews sent to the camps late in the war.
I know the last correspondence with my great grandfather was that in 1936 and he was a US citizen by then. I'm not sure of the details of the trip, its been a long time since I spoke with my grandma about it. I dont know what he had to do to get there but he went and got some pictures.
Thats what happens when you get a Nationalistic Dictatorship based around fascistism

People in these comments do realize this is not what every street looked like and this picture is clearly taken at some major government building, hence the many flags.
I think you'll ruin the circle jerk with those sorts of logical comments!

The overpopulation of flags of any country and of any type is the main symptom that fascism is already there. They don't just have to be swastikas

Trevor Noah remarked this about the US; in case you forgot where you are… Commenting it is expected to see at Government buildings but the fact you can find them on so many public properties is strange. Also, as bathing suits, t shirts, stickers, drink koozies, and all made in China…

A lot of people in Poland fly the national flag out of patriotism. There's a Polish coat of arms in every classroom, and a crucifix in most. I can truly feel the fascism here, it's absolutely terrifying! Im shivering in my room right now!
Visited Munich last year and my dad and I went to Dachau. You learn that the first step was for them to remove ANYBODY that could oppose their power, after that it ramped up to the others.
Huh, eerily similar to goings-on somewhere else on the globe right now. Can't quite put my finger in it though...

I think that there is a Kimmel of truth in what you are saying there. Edit: of course, this is not EXACTLY the same. As Mark Twain supposedly said "History doesn't repeat itself; but it does rhyme."
2 words. Brainwashed and Desperate. (Desperate for a government to actually be for the people and not outside relations) Germany was in one hell of state before Hitler came along. Literally the only good thing he did is support his people until well we know the rest
In before someone moronically says "AmERiCA 2025" oh wait, I'm too late.

Looks clean and tidy. No phones... just people enjoying the moment.

It could be France, London or Canada 2025 except with Palestine flags

I'm from the Netherlands, and having many flags of your home country is something that's usually only done by racists. I went to America and they had the American flag everywhere. Freaked me TF out
It started with the promise of safe and clean streets and cities, followed by the development of paramilitary into cities combined with deportations of “problematic” people, centralisation of the media…. Some people loved it.
