Wait, so she was only asking for $100 million of the 1.6 billion, not the whole amount? Even if the son was sure she was a gold digger, $100 million isn't much to make her go away, in the grand scheme of it.
It was half of his estate that Anna Nicole Smith said he promised her. And I believe her. She was awarded $449 million by the bankruptcy court. That judgment was later vacated and Smith’s award was reduced to $88 million. And then that judgement was also later vacated. Smith and J. Howard III (Marshall's other son who was left out of any will and trust) went to court together to fight for a piece of the estate. Pierce (the son that was awarded everything in the will) and Anna Nicole Smith were suing, counter suing and going to many different court cases for 20 years with both winning their cases, eventually it had to go up to federal court and then eventually it ended up at the US Supreme Court in Marshall v. Marshall and Stern v. Marshall. I don't fault Pierce or Anna Nicole Smith for doing what they did, or the other brother. They all had very normal and common reactions. Most people in any one of their shoes would react the same way they did. The villain of the story is the father who took one son out of his will (and over something super petty), the father who was cheating on Peirce's mother (the brothers had different mothers) while she had alzheimer's and was planning on marrying different strippers after his wife died and was putting different strippers on his payroll as "consultants"
and the man who went after a 26 year old with a child when he was 90 something and made many promises to her and then lied to her. They had a deal and she fulfilled that deal. He didn't. He did purposely leave her out of the will, just like he did with his other son. J. Howard Marshall the second was the problem in all of their lives. He should have just made a proper will and given them each something. Instead he created more suffering for them even in his death.
Anna Nicole Smith
Smith 和 J. Howard III(Marshall 另一个被踢出所有遗嘱和信托的儿子)一起上法庭,为争取遗产份额而战。
J. Howard Marshall

Not sure one mill meant THAT much to her. She was a pretty popular model

That wasn't a hugely lucrative profession at the time, even especially at ANS's level.
No Instagram. No only fans. No project runway. Tyra didn't even have a show yet.
What work she could get (the occasional b list magazine cover or guess jeans and) was probably eaten up by the execs and managers. And she was on the way out, too.
You are making a lot of assumptions. The lawyers’ bill would’ve been more than a million. I would guess she wanted more, and it was cheaper to fight it than pay her. The bottom line is the old man never changed his will. She would’ve gotten much more of a payday if he did.
He married her though, he wanted someone young and beautiful. Calling her a gold digger as an insult doesnt do much when the old man wanted someone that young.🤷🏻♀️
Ikr?! If she was a gold digger, and he left her nothing, what did that make him? A tin man?
Of course she was a gold digger! That was the arrangement! Nobody was fondling his rich, prehistoric donger without an agreement! The fuck world you living in dude😂
I guess I'm just thinking that if I had 1.6 billion dollars, $100 million isn't much to make her go away and not spend over a decade in court.
You know, I have always assumed a Gold Digger is a bad person, but in the context of all of this stuff, like, is it a bad thing? Seems like the Billionaire was aware of the quid pro quo as was Anna, so why does it matter? I mean this genuinely, I'm not really seeing an issue.
Being a gold digger is no worse than being a sex worker. You're selling services for a lot of money and when it's on the up and up everyone is okay with this exchange. She made out really well for caretaking and what was probably the occasional sex act. But the will was clear seems like
I’m be always laughed about this situation. The man was an 86 year old billionaire, he’d seen his fair share of gold digging and would have planned for that.

His will actually said that the fortune should go inits entirely to Anna Nicole. But his family disputed it in court and won. And Anna Nicole got nothing. So he didn’t plan this.
I thought it went to her then they sued an there was a settlement

She did win 450 million I believe, but lost to his son in a higher court
His will and trust did not say that. They left everything to his youngest son, which he did 14 years before he died when his oldest went against him in a matter about Koch Industries. Anna Nicole said he promised her money (and he had given $15 million to the stripper before her, so understandable) and she and his oldest sued. The younger son died during the 10 years of court battles and his widow got it all.
No it did not. She was not in his will at all. She claimed he verbally promised half of his fortune. His one son that was cut out of the will also tried to claim he was verbally promised an inheritance. Anna initially won an inheritance of the interest he earned on his investments during their marriage, but she lost when the decision wss appealed. But he never left a penny to her. Nothing. Zero.
There’s a belief he had dementia when he passed. Whatever Anna Nicole Smith presented as a will in that last year would be considered invalid because who knows if he was manipulated. As far as I’m concerned any will she presented is invalid due to diminished capacity.
They had a long relationship prior to anyone knowing who Anna Nicole Smith was. He essentially helped her become a model after becoming infatuated with her at a strip club. He knew her before she was the ANS we knew. And before her enhancements. This wasnt a fly by night relationship. They actually cared about each other and were together before she was famous. While money was a clear motivation of this relationship it was also probably the last time she was ever truly happy and no one trying to scam her because of her celebrity.
Exactly. It wasn’t some hot, romantic relationship and they both knew what the deal was, but I do believe they both cared for each other. Game recognized game and they both knew what the deal was, but loved each other within that framework.
This is frustrating to read. My grandpa had Alzheimer's but everyone pretended he didn't. He sold his house to a member of his congregation for a third of its market value, kind of on a whim, and later forgot about it. And the courts ruled that because he had signed paperwork, despite clearly not being well, it was binding. And so he lost the house he had built, which was worth over a million, for only 300k.
Belief isnt the same as truth. If any will would be invalid due to dementia near the end of life a majority of wills would be invalid.
That's simply and truly 100% false and inaccurate. If the settlor of the will does not have capacity, the will is invalid.

There’s a really interesting You’re Wrong About episode on this This particular billionaire had a thing for gold diggers, and one of his previous wives died getting a enhancement surgery of some sort like a facelift or something like that that went horribly wrong He proposed to Anna Nichole multiple times and she turned him down constantly because she wanted to make sure that she could fulfill her dreams first and foremost. So she became a model and a successful model at that before she consented to marrying him, and she largely married him because he was a really positive support system for her coming from a situation where she was a single mother working as a sex worker and just basically struggling and being treated shit shitty by other people. Am I gonna sit here and tell you that she was in love with him? No. But he made her feel safe, and he respected her wishes, and he continued to pursue her in a non-aggressive manner until she on her own terms agreed to be with him they seem to actually really get along.

Yes, I love that episode of YWA! I think Sarah also stresses the point that he was the *first* man that she felt safe with, which was a big deal for her considering she was abused as a child and in her prior relationships.

But why would he care? Obviously she doesn’t give a shit about him, but did he give a shit about her, no. However, he had fun! She should have been reimbursed in some way. Hell 5% of that would have been fair.
This is my take on it, too. He was using her just as much as she was using him. Neither of them were deeply and genuinely in love. She shouldn't have got the entire estate, but she should've got some money. It's only fair.

You can be unattractive and marry a lawyer or doctor IF you are also upper middle class.

There is always a term for something a woman does. Marry for money? Gold-digger. Desiring a younger partner? Cougar. A single parent who has to rely on welfare? A welfare queen. There aren’t words like this for men in the same positions. We make new words for what is important to us. It has been important to our society for centuries to keep women in their place and belittle their choices. So we have language to illustrate that.
I’m forever sorry no one knows their actual story. She refused to marry him for years. She wanted to have her own career before they married so no one could say she was just marrying him for the money. They truly loved each other.
Between the more than half century age gap, the massive class gap, and the fact that he looks like he needed a daily a cocktail of at least a dozen prescriptions simply to keep him from dropping dead at any moment, well it's very hard to see this as a love story.
Maybe she needed a half a dozen prescriptions to keep her from. Oh fuck nvm.

To be fair, even if he did view her sexually, their relationship always remained non-sexual and grew from a lot of emotional intimacy. That’s one of the reasons why Anna married him in the first place, she stated that he was one of the few men who treated her well and didn’t exploit her or overly sexualize her. I think he did find her to be pretty attractive, but it was evident that he enjoyed their emotional connection as he was still grieving his former wife’s death when they first met, so he was one of the first few men Anna met who actually wanted to talk with her and not just get into her pants.

She probably got a few watches and diamond suit cuffs or somethin lmao.. Ol Howard Marshall knew what was going..most people aren't going to outsmart a billionaire businessman and his top notch lawyers. Just because he was senile the last few years of his life doesn't mean he didn't have it figured out in the decades leading up.

He gave her around 14 million in gifts while he was with her. I do think she should have gotten something from the estate as the old man intended. She gave him joy in the end. That is priceless imo. He knew what he was doing with a young stripper. I watched full documentaries with this and they even have his voice. He seemed pretty mentally sound. He was upset his son opposed a million dollar jewelry gift and wouldn’t approve the purchase. He spoke very clearly and knew what was going on.
