i got stabbed in the side of the face right below my eye when i was in like kindergarten or 1st grade and just got made fun of for having stitches lmao so i’m glad you had a different experience 😭 kids and adults are brutal sometimes. edit: it wasn’t a person directly but it was an iffy park and my sperm donor was “meeting a friend” and someone left something sharp on the play stuff and my hand slipped on this round thing and i planted face first onto whatever it was lol it when in beside my right eye but no vision damage thank God.

Oh man… in grade 4 I wiped out off the monkey bars at school. Busted my eyebrow and knocked myself out. Woke up to dozens of kids around me - left in an ambulance that day. Few stitches and a day or two later I was eager to go back to school. Mum wrote a note that said she’d pick me up if I had a headache or anything - off I went. The teacher read that note aloud and inserted a line about “bringing her home so her father can blacken her other eye”. The rest of the day was spent denying my dad hit me and trying to remind everyone I’d done it AT SCHOOL. Needless to say, my Mother was very very unhappy.
天呐……我四年级的时候从学校的攀爬架上摔了下来。眉骨撞破了，人也直接摔晕过去。醒来的时候身边围着几十个小孩——那天我是坐救护车走的。缝了几针，休息了一两天，我就又迫不及待想回学校了。我妈写了张条子，说要是头疼或者有什么不舒服，就去接我——于是我就出发了。结果老师竟然当众念了那张条子，还自作主张加了一句：“要是她不舒服就把她带回家，好让她爸把她另一只眼也揍青。”那天剩下的时间，我都在忙着跟人解释我爸根本没打我，拼了命地提醒大家那伤是我在学校自己摔的。不用说，我妈当时火冒三丈，气坏了。

This was very early 90’s - things were different back then, I guess. My Mother immediately called the school and made that teacher apologize to me over the phone (and again in class the next day) but I spent years fending rumours that my dad beat me.

I dont know how it is these days, but I swear 1 out of 10 elementary/middle school teachers in the 90s/early 2000s was a full fledged psychopath that got off on torturing children. I had some amazing teachers growing up, but I also had a handful of truly cruel teachers.

My kid routinely came home from kindergarten with a busted up face - her friends would forget she only had one eye and would throw her the ball at recess....from the right side. She _literally_ never saw it coming!

My brother lost an eye to a BB gun when he was a kid. Recently he needed cataract surgery, very scary for a guy with one eye. The surgery was a great success but he had to laugh when they called to schedule surgery for his “other eye”.
我弟弟小时候玩气枪弄瞎了一只眼。最近他得做白内障手术，这对一个只有一只眼的人来说真的很吓人。手术非常成功，但当医生打电话来预约他“另一只眼”的手术时，他自己都忍不住笑了。

Before they decided to remove the bad eye I had radiation/chemotherapy to try and save it. Ironically that treatment caused a cataract to form in my good eye lol. Doctors advised my parents to leave the cataract because it was too risky to try and remove it at the time for whatever reason, so when I was 18 I got lasik but the cataract was so big I needed to have my lense replaced completely, so I've been a bionic man for years. All of that to say that I'm dreaming even bigger than lasik, just need a good insurance plan that covers advanced cybernetic implants.

Not OP, but our son has bilateral Retinoblastoma. He was diagnosed last October around his first birthday. Had to have his left eye removed in December. Last chemo was in February. His right eye no longer has any active tumors thankfully. Sorry, it's just always interesting to me now when I hear about someone else having this rare disease. I hope you and OP are doing amazing!

Sorry to hear about your son, may he remain in remission and live a full life. Doctors figured I was blind in the eye from birth so after removal I had very little issues adjusting which caused my parents more stress as I just wanted to run and play and they wanted me to sit and be still. Turning 40 next year and will be on my 6th prosthetic eye. Always cool to watch them make them, so much fine detail goes into the finished product.

Thank you! Our little guy has had zero issues adjusting to only having one eye as well. Much like yourself, we suspect he couldn't see out of his left eye long before the outward physical signs showed up. We are like your parents now, always a bit worried about him running around possibly injuring his right eye, but we try our best not to treat him any different. Ocularists are amazing! Our son's prosthetic is truly a work of art. There have been plenty of times where for a split second I forget which eye is the prosthetic.

I know an old woman who takes her eye out if people piss her off. She's not quite right in the head but it's always a fun time. My great grandfather was involved in refining prosthetic eyes long ago. He patented a way to prescribe them, rather than being one size fits all (at least that's my understandingof it). I'm always interested to see them in use even if the tech he developed isn't really relevant anymore.

I got glasses and a fake eye shortly after. The accent leaves when you remove the patch, but my heart still yearns for the sea.

Aye man, join the club! When I was 15 they found a brain tumor with a side of brain / spine cancer and when they tried cutting the tumor out it snipped some nerves behind my eye so now it’s permanently shut and useless. Also lost my depth perception and peripheral vision so I can’t drive. A lot of people suggested me to wear an eyepatch but I just found it uncomfortable. Little you be rocking your eyepatch tho!

I lost my eye when I was 21, and it was difficult for me, even at that age, to accept the stares and ignorant comments. You are very strong for having endured that through your early years. I can imagine there were times the other kids were brutal
