Just a quick fact check here; no doubt Chebichi was a tremendous athlete, but a Google search shows that in 1974, when she would have been 14 or 15, she was "medaling" in the Commonwealth Games as a middle distance runner \[800m to 1500m\]. There is no reference to her running or winning a marathon, a distance race of 26.2 miles. While some middle distance runners eventually compete and succeed at the marathon level, it usually takes years to do so. Doing it in "reverse", while succeeding at such a high level at such a young age, is unlikely. Of course, I could be wrong, as I found information about Chebichi's running history from a quick Google search.

Wikipedia says the same: she was a middle distance runner. She did well in the Commonwealth games and was supposed to participate in the 1976 Olympics, but Kenya withdrew for some reason from participation in the Olympics. No mention of marathons.
